RIP Daniel Kahneman

Daniel Kahneman, who changed psychology and economics forever, dies at 90.

He is best known for his behavioural economics theory (cognitive biases and heuristics) for which he won Nobel Prize. His book Thinking Fast and Slow which became a huge success is one of the top few books which very few have read completely.

Here are his 10 great quotes:

1. Nothing in life is as important as you think it is while you are thinking about it.

2. We’re blind to our blindness. We have very little idea of how little we know. We’re not designed to know how little we know.

3. We’re generally overconfident in our opinions and our impressions and judgments.

4. So your emotional state really has a lot to do with what you’re thinking about and what you’re paying attention to.

5. There’s a lot of randomness in the decisions that people make.

6. Economists think about what people ought to do. Psychologists watch what they actually do.

7. What you see is all there is.

8. If you care about being thought credible and intelligent, do not use complex language where simpler language will do.

9. A reliable way of making people believe in falsehoods is frequent repetition, because familiarity is not easily distinguished from truth.

10. It’s a wonderful thing to be optimistic. It keeps you healthy and it keeps you resilient.
