I played a semi-classical chess tournament over the weekend and did reasonably well. I won 5 games, drew one and lost 2 games thus scoring 5.5 out of 8. Even the two games I lost were not bad. No blunders or easy loss.
Since it was a semi-classical event (30 mins + 30 sec increment per move), I wrote all games. The Rapid events I play don’t allow me that luxury. Still I occasionally capture the critical positions from memory immediately after finishing the game. But that’s rare. So I don’t get any resource to study my own games later. With semi-classical, I have the score-sheets and I can now feed the games in an App and study!
After such classical or semi-classical events my interest in interest in starting chess training is renewed…and then it fizzles out. The good thing this time is that I made a couple of new connects, with kids or teen-agers (thanks to my nephew who also played in the same event). They are far up-to-date in ways and means of online training. So I got some useful information on online and offline camps, using software for training a specific aspect of the game etc.
Motivation is perishable. It has a limited shelf-life. So if you don’t act on it and build a system or habit around it, the motivation fizzles out.
I want to persist with the thought of chess training with an intent of improving my FIDE rating. Let’s see how it goes.
Meanwhile, I have started exploring Youtube channels that focus on chess training. Here is one I found.
