I never thought I will have to say “R.I.P., Charlie Munger!” before her turned 100, which was just one month away. However, here I am 😦
Yesterday (28th November) I slept at around 11 AM IST – which is much earlier than my usual time. I don’t know why but I woke up at 2:30 AM IST. This is not usual for me, but it happened. I checked time and then saw my Twitter feed. The first news I saw was passing away of Charlie Munger at the age of 99, which was released in media just 30 minutes back (i.e. at around 2 AM).
I was heartbroken! It felt like someone in my family had passed away. Just a few weeks back, on 9th November, I had written an appreciation post for Charlie Munger.
I was so certain that he’s going to celebrate his 100th birthday on 1st January 2024 and had also planned to start my new blog dedicated on “focused few things” on the same day. It was unimaginable to think that he would pass away just 3 weeks later.
Sir Pelham Grenville (PG) Wodehouse, creator of Jeeves and of the prize pig the Empress of Blandings, was in his 94th year, but his death still came as a shock.
Three decades earlier, Wodehouse had reacted to the passing of his stepdaughter, Leonora, with the numbed words: “I thought she was immortal.”
I had thought Charlie Munger was immortal too!
His famous quip from Berkshire Hathway annual meetings after a long-winded answer from Warren Buffett used to be “I have nothing to add”. He was famous for that line!
Today onwards, unfortunately, he’ll have nothing to add, literally. However, he’ll always continue to inspire millions of people around the world, including me, with his wit and wisdom.
Rest In Peace, Charlie!
I will go ahead with my new blog from 1st January 2024 and follow Charlie’s advice below.
