Happy 60th B’day, Garry Kasparov!

Garry Kasparov, the 13th World Champion and one of the greatest chess players in history, turns 60 today! 🎉 🎂

He dominated the game for more than 20 years as its top-rated player and won every super-tournament he played in for 9 straight years (1981-1990). His use of computers in chess preparation revolutionised the game, and his books are considered classics.

I have three of his books and those are really great!

What I like about Kasparov is that he has contributed a lot to Chess world through his writing, analysis and interviews (which very few other top players have done). He has written extensively on topics outside Chess, which are about technology or new developments (e.g. AI).

He has commented fearlessly on world politics.

His quote below is just awesome (might not be his own but the fact he posted it is also significant) and apt for today’s India.

I have posted earlier some of his great interviews/talks. Do check out those posts as well.
