Today is 100th birthday (born: 2nd May 1921) of legendary Indian film director, scriptwriter, documentary filmmaker, author, lyricist, editor, calligrapher, and music composer Satyajit Ray!

He won Bharat Ratna (the highest civilian award in India), Dadasaheb Phalke Award (the highest award in India for film making) and an honorary Oscars for the lifetime contribution in Cinema.
The Mint newspaper has done a special edition on this occasion which is worth reading

Interestingly, I have not watched most of his work yet.
I have watched his Hindi movie Shatranj Ke Khiladi and a silent documentary – TWO – which I liked immensely and blogged about.
I have to watch his famous Apu trilogy and some of the other works and also read his short stories.
