Chess is one of my passions and some day I aspire to do justice to my potential.
I have played chess since age of 9. I studied chess for 3-4 years but have been playing regularly for the last 33+ years; more often after the emergence of Chess software and mobile apps, because you can play on your own without needing a player across the board.
One of my memorable chess encounters have been with a blind chess player who was the national blinds champion. I somehow managed to get a draw but I was amazed how fought hard in spite of the huge handicap.
After that I’ve seen many blind players play and have understood a lot about such players. Many top players such as Magnus Carlsen and Vishy Anand and Garry Kasparov can play blindfold chess; they can even play blindfold “simuls” (short for simultaneous games on multiple boards where a player keeps moving across all tables and plays with many players at a time).
Today I came across one more such amazing and inspirational story!
Lukasz Nowak overcame his spinal disease and earned the International Master Title! That’s an amazing feat!
Lukasz was diagnosed of this condition almost at birth and he has been confined to a chair, similar to the great theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking.

It’s stories like these which remind me how blessed I am to have a decently functional body and mind and inspire me to work harder to overcome my little problems.
