Decoding Wordle

I wrote a blog post about Wordle a few days ago. I have been playing it since a few days and liked it as a daily exercise for the grey cells.

But more than the puzzle I am also finding it interesting to read/listen to various perspectives on the puzzle. Why has it become so successful? There are various theories. I have mine too. However, I want to share here an interesting take on this topic by Manu Joseph in his recent Mint column – “What Wordle reveals about how we transmit messages“.

Another interesting aspect of Wordle is how it is linked to Information Theory. Here is a very interesting Youtube video on Solving Wordle using Information Theory. It has received more than 6.5 million views in just 10 days!

Then there is one more video on the same channel which talks about the best starting guess.

Lastly, it wouldn’t have been fair if someone had not linked Wordle with another current buzzword – Python. Someone wrote a Python program to simulate 100K games to find out the best strategy.

On a parting note, my half-geek friend’s first two guess words for Wordle are always same. HELLO and WORLD 🙂
